Biography

Professor Dr. Gert Kwakkel has held the chair in Neurorehabilitation at the Amsterdam University Medical Centre since 2008, specializing in the relationship between brain plasticity and motor recovery after stroke. He is a leading researcher at the VU University Medical Centre and received the prestigious ERC laureate award in 2011. With over 320 publications and more than 37,000 citations in stroke rehabilitation, he has earned several honors, including an honorary fellowship from ACPIN and the ONCS Award. Kwakkel has also served as president of the Dutch Society of NeuroRehabilitation since 2010 and holds editorial roles in leading journals. In 2021, he was honored with a classroom named after him at Zürich University of Applied Sciences.
